Don't Get Twisted, Eat The Loop Churros

Image
If you are like me, you drool over Instagram food photos. If you are really like me, you'll like the photo, follow the establishment, and bookmark the spot on Yelp immediately for fear of forgetting to visit the drool-worthy establishment.
Thus, my recent visit to The Loop, handcrafted churros
What are they? A churro is a deep fried pastry, popular in Spanish influenced regions like the Mexico, Spain, and Portugal. At The Loop, the churros have toppings, dips, and soft-serve accompaniment. Yum, yum, and more yum!

Here are our loops (left to right above): Choco Crunch Glazed Chilled LoopCookies and Cream Chilled LoopDulce De Leche Dipped Loop My favorite was the Choco Crunch. I liked the crunch of the almonds on top of the crunch of the churro. The creamy soft-serve is perfect with the churro!

Disney On Ice was completely enchanting this evening!

YES! Kids Parkour in San Diego with De Leon Dymanics

Image
My eldest son, Jelo, is a techie kid. He can easily sit in front of his computer or iPad all day watching CNET videos, playing Minecraft, or drafting his book modeled after Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He'll scooter around the neighborhood with his brother, but won't touch his bike since I took off the training wheels and he is not interested in joining dance like this little brother.

Yet, when his Uncle Jun offered to include him in the Parkour class he teaches at De Leon Dynamics over a year ago, he was all for it!

Parkour is still pretty new to many people. The "sport" of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing is not as easy as it looks.

Here's my brother doing what he loves to do:

Jelo participated in his second show with De Leon Dymanics this past December.

Check him out!

Here are more highlights from the show!

GIVEAWAY: Big Hair, Don't Care - CHOPSTICK Hair Curling Wand

Image
My natural wavy hair has gotten lots of compliments from family and friends, but I've always admired those with tight, corkscrew curls that personify the saying "big hair, don't care".

The Original Chopstick Styler promises to give it's users "corkscrew curls straight from the catwalk". I thought it would be worth a try!

Pros:
Curls hair quickly! 10-20 seconds is good to create a nice curl!Handle is easy to grip and "chopstick" is the perfect length for my medium length hair. The curls lasted all day without the use of any styling products.
Cons:
The "chopstick" gets really hot. Even with the included glove, you can still burn yourself if you are not careful. Because the chopstick is so small, it's hard to use in the back of your head. Sectioning off your hair in small portions will help make sure all parts of your hair has been curled. Hair can tangle when curling small sections of hair at a time. It helps to comb the section wel…

Take What You Need - Inspiration Bulletin Board Ideas

Image
My crafting days are now few and far between but when I saw this in my High School Counselor Network Facebook Page, I pinned it immediately.

I've shared my experiences in working with my students and the increase of students I'm seeing with mental health needs. I thought this bulletin board would fit perfect in the corridor of our counseling center for students to "Take What You Need". Affirming words and positive quotes help me get through tough days so I'm hoping as students walk passed my office, they'll stop and "take what they need" to get through the day.
I headed over to one of my favorite stores, Michael's, to get what I needed to put my display together.

Day one, I used my Cricut to cut a few shapes with cardstock I already had at home.
I then placed the stickers onto the shapes I cut out.

One day two, I dug around my craft boxes and found some rope, pushpins, and my glue gun to put it all together.

And here is the final product...

Antique Shopping in Los Angeles at King Richard's Antiques

Image
On a recent trip up to the Los Angeles area, the family and I were looking for something to see and do. If you know me well, I always am on the lookout for fun, free activities for us to do with the kids. After doing a google search of "shopping in Whittier, California", I can across King Richard's Antique Center.

King Richard's Antique Center is an old orange packing site from the early 1900's. For over 30 years, this four story, 57,000 square foot antique store has over 300 vendors selling decades of chairs, desks, mirrors, china cabinets, kitchen, bedroom items, jewelry, lighting, clothing, toys, and so much more! We only had about an hour to browse but we could have spent an entire afternoon exploring the huge store.

The boys were most excited to interact with the "technology" of times passed. The knobs of old radios, the buttons of past cash registers, keys of typewriters, and the dials of rotary phones were things they were very curious about. Hubb…
