Day Three and Four: San Luis Obispo Family Vacation

Day One and Day two of our San Luis Obispo vacation were filled with lots of fun!

Day three had much more in store for us!

First thing in the morning we headed to Bubble Gum Alley, which was pretty gross!

The obligatory stop at the local university was a must for this high school counselor! Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is a beautiful campus!

We also had to check out the local "Cronuts" and compare to what San Diego has to offer! Cronuts at the SLO-Do-Co (San Luis Obispo Doughnut Company) were just as good and half the price!

Since it was Sunday, we decided to attend Mass at the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. We visited the museum, the gift shop, and the beautiful grounds before Mass began.

Hearst Castle was next for the day. I'll have to admit, this was the least exciting part of our trip for our boys! I guess they aren't impressed with opulence and extravagance!

Not too far from Hearst Castle were the Elephant Seals of San Simeon. It was cold, windy, and a bit drizzly so we didn't stay long to watch the seals.

As we continued on the highway to our next destination, I couldn't help and make my husband stop at this cute little town with a population of only 18! Harmony, CA had a cute pottery store we browsed!

We had originally planned to captain our own little boat around Morro Bay, but because the winds were too strong, we were encouraged against it. We still explored a bit and enjoyed the sights!

With recommendations from friends and Yelp, we had dinner at the Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach. The clam chowder in a bread bowl topped with seafood was just soooooooooooooo yum!

We couldn't leave San Luis Obispo without visiting the famous Madonna Inn, so we stopped here for a little dessert before turning in for the night.
My goblet of water at Madonna Inn.
For day four of our vacation in San Luis Obispo, we decided to let our kids get their sillies out before getting on the train to go back home. Avila Beach had a beautiful pirate themed playground just steps from the beach. It was a great way to spend the morning!

A quick stop for an affogato and some milkshakes at Scout Coffee before getting on the train.

We had a great weekend getaway in San Luis Obispo and surrounding areas! I hope you enjoyed the highlights of our vacation!
