Hip and cool Herringbone La Jolla is one of Brian Malarky's restaurants in San Diego. Brian Malarky is one of the featured chefs from The Food Network's Top Chef.
My cousin Tara recently started working in the kitchen at Herringbone after graduating from the Art Institute a few months ago. She invited us to check it out.
The restaurant is nice and open with a wrap around bar. On a Friday night, it's a loud restaurant, lively from the conversations at the bar to the hustle and bustle of the staff tending to the guests. There were lots of pretty people at the bar! In the dining area, it felt like I was sitting in a large boat with the ceiling looking like an inverted wooden boat. With the lighting, interesting chandeliers, in door trees, and the art on the walls, it comes together very well.
Our party ordered a few appetizers, drinks, and entrees yet to our delight the kitchen sent us a much more to try! My favorites of the night were the shrimp and grits, fried oysters, and seafood stew! The descriptors on the menu to not give justice to the yumminess of the food! Everything we had was delicious. The kitchen sent us complimentary desserts also which were all so good! The fruity desserts accompanied by the sorbets were perfect!
We left Herringbone raving about the food! Thanks Herringbone, Chef Amanda, and Cousin Tara for our happy tummies!
