Where Hairtime is Playtime at Pigtails & Crewcuts

Google "haircut phobia". I thought it was just kids who had a fear of getting their hair cut, but little did I realize that many adults have a fear of getting their hair cut too! Many share traumatic experiences of getting their haircut as a child which resulted in a lifetime of haircut phobia.

My sons first few haircuts were at Pigtails & Crewcuts. But as my kids got older, I tried to take them to a "big boy" barber but it didn't quite work out. During our last visit, my youngest son cried the entire time wiping his tears and spreading bits of hair all over his face and into his eyes and mouth. We left with half a haircut and an upset little boy. When I asked him why he cried, he simply said "I don't like it there." Maybe it as too grown up for him. No smiling hair stylist. No fun colors and cool chair to sit in. No kiddie movie to distract him.

So, to avoid a lifetime of haircut phobia, back to Pigtails & Crewcuts we went!

Owner of the Chula Vista Pigtails & Crewcuts, Leslie Rodiles, shared a similar story of her little girls getting haircuts as youngsters. She also would have crying kids and frantic experiences, so they decided to bring a kid friendly salon to the south San Diego community.

Before the haircuts...

My kids love the vibe and the kid friendly atmosphere at Pigtails & Crewcuts. The hair stylists were always very friendly and made my kids comfortable in getting their haircuts. They know how to engage in kiddie conversations to help my boys relax and enjoy the experience.

The kid movies that play during the haircut are a welcome distraction during the process. There are TV screens at each haircut station and inside the kids waiting area, which is filled with toys and other distractions as well. During our last visit, Big Hero 6 was playing, my kids' favorite!

The cute chairs the kids get to sit in are a treat my kids enjoy. To choose between the airplane, taxi cab, fire truck, or police car is a difficult choice every time!

The lollipop and prize out of the treasure chest at the end of the haircut is always the cherry on top of the haircut experience.

After the haircuts...

Colored hair gel, fashionable braids, hair glitter, and more fun can be had at Pigtails & Crewcuts!

Pigtails & Crewcuts also features special party packages. Each of the salons has a special party room where kids love to play dress-up, have their hair done, enjoy make-up and nail color services, embark on treasure hunts and celebrate a great occasion with friends! My favorite is the Princess Party where the kids get to participate in crafts while enjoying up-dos, tasteful make-up application, nail color or other princess-like treats! I wish I had a princess party when I was a little girl! How fun!! At the Chula Vista location, many patrons have had a party at the salon and continued the celebration at the Build A Bear store and Food Court adjacent to the salon.

There is also a special for the "First Haircut" which is all too precious!

There are cute accessories, as well as kids hair products for sale at Pigtails & Crewcuts.

Leslie highly encourages making a reservation when planning to visit Pigtails & Crewcuts to avoid long waits during peak times.
