Take Delight in Oceana Coastal Kitchen

I have lots of posts on my blog bragging about the awesomeness of my hometown, San Diego. I've just experienced another "wow" of what San Diego has to offer: Oceana Coastal Kitchen located in the Catamaran Hotel and Resort in Mission Bay.

Upon walking into the restaurant, you come face to face with a 800 gallon jelly fish tank. At first, I thought the jelly fish, illuminated by dramatic lighting, would make for a great view for a romantic dinner.

But, then I walked out onto the outdoor dining patio and THAT was the perfect view for a romantic dinner. The panoramic beach views, along with the live music encompassed the greatness San Diego has to offer.

I was fortunate to share his dining experience with my friends from the San Diego Filipino Blogger Network. Our table was perfect - a booth facing the wonderful view!

Do you see Ferchil's 12oz Harris Ranch Ribeye Steak? YUM!
To start, I had the Mexican Sangria which was a delicious combination of corralejo tequila, triple sec, cabernet sauvignon, house-made sweet and sour, splash of pineapple juice. The drink was perfect for the warm San Diego day.

Along with my sangria, we were treated to the Oceana Seafood Tower of shrimp cocktail, crab claws, king crab, oysters on the half shell, ceviche, mussels and clams. My oh my were we eager to jump into that tower as soon as it hit the table! There were several dipping sauces to accompany the seafood which all complimented each bite. The ceviche was a little sweet which was a nice touch. The rest of the seafood was fresh and a delight to my taste buds! The tower was more than enough for our party of six. After each of us had had our share, we started to point at each other to finish the last few bites. We definitely wanted to save space in our bellies for the main dish.

The choice for my main dish was tough but Jaime, our server, offered a few great suggestions one of which was the Two Duck Risotto that I was eyeing. This dish features seared Mary’s Farm duck breast with risotto of braised leg confit and Japanese pumpkin. I love risotto so this dish was a savory treat. I loved the crispy skin on top of the duck that sat on top of the risotto. The bites of pumpkin and duck within the risotto was great. I ate every last bite and was a bit upset when my friends asked for a bite to taste. Haha, just joking SDFBN!

The sun began to set and from our table we watched the blue sky get darker and darker to eventually display a full moon right over the water. It was beautiful!

As the stars filled the sky, we were treated to several "sweets" from the menu all of which were a great ending to a wonderful dinner.

Warn Skillet Brownie and Cream, baked to order with vanilla ice cream, and New School Banana Pudding with caramelized banana and vanilla cookie crumble.

Trudy's Black Velvet Cake - slice of vanilla soaked chocolate cake and whipped cream

Warm Chocolate Cream-Filled Doughnuts with vanilla dipping sauce

To end the night, there was a pleasant surprise to top off the awesome view from earlier in the evening. Across the bay from neighboring SeaWorld, we were awed by the fireworks display! We were able to enjoy the fireworks right from our table.

Great way to end dinner at @OceanaCoastal with fireworks from neighboring #SeaWorld. #SDFBN #ZOMATO #SanDiego #sdfoodie
